for quite some time now i've been trying to find the perfect "every day" necklace... something that felt like "me", whatever that means... and could be worn with pretty much anything..  this weekend i was wandering around the city on one of the most beautiful saturdays in a LONG time, and wandered right into this necklace... not usually one to seriously peruse the jewellery cabinet at jonathan + olivia, knowing my wallet and pamela love aren't exactly "besties", I was enticed when i saw a sign reading 50% off!!

it gets better.... peering into the bottom shelf i spotted this unique piece by german designer sabrina dehoff ... the very helpful stylist informed me that dehoff's work is, not surprising, exclusively carried at j+o in canada... it was perfect! a sterling silver bear claw with a claw detail and chain dipped in 14K gold.. it perfectly combined my love of mixed metals, delicate detailing and canadiana... as if my luck couldn't get better, my sweet boyfriend decided that he would treat me to this special find... if only every day was this sweet..

a royal fairytale...

Credit
like many others, I said I wasn't going to watch the Royal wedding... but like a train wreck, I couldn't tear my eyes away on April 29th... despite the 6 hours of wedding footage and then all the images flying around twitter about "second dresses", i couldn't and still can't get enough... yes, it was everything a royal wedding should have been... elegance, class with a touch of tradition and just the right amount of spectacle...

spring has arrived.. and with it, BIKE SEASON!!!
one of the great perks of living in the city is tossing out your ttc pass come April and hopping on your trusty 2-wheeler to cruise around in the warm summer breeze...
i have been cycling in the city for almost 8 years... i have to admit, it was a little terrifying at first, but once you get the hang of the streetcar tracks, cars, pedestrians and suicidal pigeons, there is no greater pleasure...
for the last 2 years, i've been playing with the idea of getting a bike that actually matches up with the carefree lifestyle i try to embody... my ccm mountain bike just doesn't seem to make sense as i cruize down my queen west neighbourhood..

here are some investments i'm considering..

THE DREAM (okay, not really considering this.. but it's nice to dream)

two weeks until the launch of the h&m conscience collection..

i've marked my calendar once again for the spring launch of h&m's latest "green" collection coming to a store near you on April 14th.... unlike recent collaborations with brands like lanvin, matthew williamson and jimmy choo, the conscience collection is AFFORDABLE and in touch with what's happening in current fashion...

this trend of ecologically-friendly clothing is nothing new to the fashion world, but has become increasingly present in affordable brands such as h&m, zara and the gap... last year, h&m launched the hugely successful "garden collection" which featured vibrant florals and watercolours which screamed of spring and made you want lie in the grass of a lavender field, staring into each others eyes.. [twi reference, sorry!]
the conscience collection gives a similar vibe, however, without the elaborate palette... this collection features exclusively white and nude tones which may not agree with all...

natalie portman was the first to debut this collection during oscar week... i will definatly be following her lead..

wallis...

today the toronto star featured a story about the illustrious Wallis Simpson... socialite who created a royal scandal when she pulled, heir to the throne, Edward VIII, from his royal duties in the 1930's.. interestingly, she is remembered equally for being “too ambitious, too ruthless, too greedy, too mannish, too sexual, too cruel, too divorced, too pro-German and too American" as she is for being a style icon.. you can see why...

NYC FW..

... so I need to take a moment to travel to New York Fashion week where 3.1 Phillip Lim is making me sick with envy for his fall/winter 2011 collection... it was described by Mr. Lim as “...about these chic women who ride bikes to work, to brunch, to a cocktail party.” Oh how I would like to be one of those women...

mellowing out in mendoza..

anthropologie recently released their september catalogue and i have to admit, my heart skipped a beat when i discovered that it was shot in ARGENTINA (Mendoza, no less)!!

as if i needed any encouragement getting excited about my upcoming trip to the land of mate, gauchos and dulce de leche.. the last time i was there, i believe i was 15 or 16 years old so i'm curious to return after a decade of absence..

these images speak to the stunning, yet rugged, nature of the argentine landscape speckled with the famous Criollo caballos.. enjoy and be taken away...

Shoe-rific!

Today I came across something that I seriously had not considered before... I know, this sounds like I'm going to say something really profound. Unfortunately, this is about shoes, and thus, not life altering. Forgive my superficiality but this just made me go "eeee!" this morning.

So those of you that have known me for a while will nod when I say, I like a little embellishment. Be it a bow, jewel, pop of colour or some other creative method, I like a little "POW" in my step.

This morning during my obessive cruising of wedding sites (I'm really not sure what has brought this on) I discovered the most simple, yet genius way to add a little pop to my shoes without breaking the bank!

A pair of Christian Louboutins, you ask? Well, yes, but answer me this.... Have you ever seen this pair before??? I didn't think so!

I too was trying to unsolve the mystery of these never-before-seen Loubous and how a DIY bride could afford such a luxery.

Well, my queries were answered in an excerpt from the photo shoot where the bride explained that her basic nude Louboutins were accented by some jeweled shoe clips she bought on ebay!!

Shoe clips??? What are these magical things??? After a few quick searches on ebay, and later etsy, I discovered that shoe clips are much like clip on earings, for your feet! Why hadn't I thought of this before??

Never one to pass up on an excellent opportunity I have now ordered a couple samples of these "shoe clips" to try and and see how they work. Based on this experiment I may have just found my next DIY project!!
